This is in response to Mr Irfan Hussain's Column “A CIA agent’s take on drones” (14/12/2013).

I am not sure what Mr Hussain was trying to achieve through building an argument around someone i.e. the CIA agent in Pakistan who is busy selling blood of his own people for mere $200 a month. The points put across by the agent didn’t seem anything more than a traitor justifying his jobs-worth. What should one expect from someone selling the motherland for $200? If it is our war then what’s the justification of CIA agents operating

from our soil providing intelligence to the US? It gives strength to the notion that the American CIA is waging a secret war on our soil through its network of spies.Mr Hussain's central character then in his excitement goes further saying the following:

"...From a military standpoint, it’s a success for the United States. And I contribute to that success."

Does it not tell whose war we have tangled ourselves into?

Rubbishing the innocent death toll including that of women and children by the agent and later on admitting the same didn’t make sense. Regardless of numbers, isn’t loss of one innocent life, one too many? Besides, it’s not just one person but a whole affected family or clan that is more likely to be sucked into a blood feud with the state. I leave it to Mr Hussain to do the maths.

About the misconception that none of Pakistan’s laws apply to FATA. Perhaps the writer ignored the fact that it is the government of Pakistan that is still governing FATA through colonial set of laws brought in by the British in 1901 to counter Pakhtun opposition to their rule and unfortunately little has been done since then to integrate FATA into Pakistan, for the same reason i.e. to protect the ruling elite’s interests. Not integrating and extending the writ of the State to FATA is not due to the situation but due to the administrative arrangements of the state of Pakistan. It is also against the will of people of FATA. Read FATA declaration published 25/06/2013 in various papers. There is practically no writ of the government in Lyari and various other parts of the country, what shall we do? Drone the areas?

The US AID $20 billion in 12 years that includes $10 Billion of CSF represents a mere 0.3% of our GDP and peanuts when compared to the loss of $100 billion due to this pointless war. Contextually, Mr Haggle’s warning may be a blessing in disguise for Pakistan, as for once we may learn to live without cap in hand. Besides, if it is a price tag for our blood and sovereignty, then we are better off without it.

KP's "Real" Issues

THIS is in response to news item “KP’s real issues succumb to PTI’s populist approach” (Nov 25).

 

The report seemed to be a more of PTI opponents’ views than a factual analysis of the situation in KP. The reporter also seemed to have played it safe by quoting statements of ANP and JUI (F) leaders and a professor from the University of Peshawar, creating a particular spin.

 

Fulfilling electoral promise and implementing the APC resolution cannot just be termed populist. The issues faced by the people of KP as quoted in the story are not unique to the province. In fact, they are faced by all Pakistanis across the country. Price hike and unemployment are not governance issues but are a result of federal incompetence and the overall financial gloom in the country. Vague remarks on governance and phrases like ‘many think’, and then quotes by the JUI(F), ANP leaders and a professor are not convincing, and ironically discredits the argument.

 

Bullied by the ‘thana and patwari’ culture and deprived of health and education facilities, the common Pakistani is also faced with the unending increase in prices and security issues.

 

Perhaps a survey on the real issues in KP could help gauge the progress in the mentioned areas for the story. Snap checks in hospitals, the thana and patwari culture, mystery shopping, the RTI Law, visiting schools, testing the e-government facilities and getting feedback from residents could also help in gathering data, rather than just calling PTI critics and building a story based on their opinions.

The story links industrial shutdown in KP to the subsidies withdrawn in the 1990s, quoting the case of Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate. Factually, in 2008, gas and electricity load shedding was one of the major issues faced by the project. The subsidies referred to are as follows:

 

Income tax holiday for eight years

Exemption from sales-tax for five years

Exemption from custom duty on imported machinery

Duty-free import of raw materials 50pc concession in electricity tariff

 

None of these incentives is a provincial subject, and the fact that one of the biggest industrial groups had also stopped functioning in the area tells us that there is more to the subject than just the withdrawal of incentives.

 

There can be a multitude of reasons for the shutdown in the past, but who in their right minds will reinvest in a province battered by terrorism?

 

The story conveniently avoided a holistic view of the situation, which failed to focus on the real issues.

The respect and Global Accolade earned by Mandela was phenomenal. But it was only because He loved and struggled for HIS OWN PEOPLE. He fought for his people on his own for 3 decades. He was mocked , teased, pushed , called terrorist (was on USA terrorists list till 2008 A SHAME FOR THE USA) ... BUT HE NEVER GAVE UP ... He was Determined. He has taught the modern world that Success can be achieved through hard work and selfless struggle. No matter what the circumstances are...

THOSE who sell their people's blood in the name of collateral damage will surely be at the lowest pit of the wall of shame and hate ... remember that TRAITORS of PAKISTAN ....

This refers to Nadir Hassan's article, ‘Whither PTI?’ (November 28). It seems that there is no pleasing for the compulsive PTI critics. I am perplexed how implementing a firm election promise, the unanimous resolution of four APCs, a number of parliamentary resolutions and a high court's decision can be termed illegal or undemocratic.

I fail to see how the blockade of the Nato supply is a loss for the drivers rather than their employers. Surely Nato supplies don't just get off the boat and loaded pro rata on some truck. These contracts may have provided for the living of a few truck drivers but the rewards are only reaped by the ruling elite. The USAID argument is incorrect since the initiatives have been going on since 2007 – ending in 2015. Interestingly, all these reminders have only come through one particular faction in Pakistan and not the US itself. Probably due to the fact that the total aid in the last 12 years to Pakistan is a mere $20 billion including $10 billion CSP, which is merely 0.6 percent of the GDP per annum and an insignificant 0.3 percent without CSP. The net loss to the economy due to this pointless war is north of $100 billion as per careful estimates. Talks, protests and pressure tactics are widely practised democratic norms across the globe. Stopping Nato supplies may not stop the drones but it certainly sends a stronger message than mere condemnation.

Chairman Imran Khan has met with the ambassadors of all NATO countries today. As mentioned in his interview with Jasmeen and indicated by Shah Mahmood Qureshi earlier a couple of Days ago.

This is how you build your case and how you apply pressure effectively. It is imperative to note that this is what the Prime Minister COULD and SHOULD have done. It is sad to see that the government and other political parties who signed up to the parliamentary and APC resolutions are backing off from the pledge at a critical time. But this will not stop PTI from Going ahead with APC and Parliamentary resolutions, PHC decision, its Election Promise and indeed the will of the people of Pakistan, the very people who have been directly affected by this so called war on terror.

Sending a strong message to the US and getting all NATO countries in confidence over illegal trespassing of US and Drone attacks on our soils without even being in Power is a Tactical win for PTI and a step forward in achieving stability in our country.

PTI is committed to do what ever we have in our Remit to end bloodshed on our land and to bring peace in our country. The pointless war has already claimed thousands of lives and we are out of pocket by north of $100 Billion with nil investment, destroyed infrastructure, Deteriorating law and order and sky rocketing inflation. This needs to stop. No compromise on our sovereignty, no to Drones.

دہایاں بیت گیئں وطن عزیز کو نازک موڑسے گزرتے. ایسا نازک موڑ جو لیاقت علی خان کی شہادت سے لے کر آج تک کٹ ہی نہیں رہا. ذمہ دار کون؟ سیاست دان؟ افواج یا عوام؟ ہر شخص کا مجرم الگ مگر دیکھا جائے تو شاید دامے درمے سخنے اس کار خیر میں سب نے اپنا حصّہ ڈالا. اور ظلم سہ کر لوگوں نے ان گیدڑوں کو شیر بنا ڈالا.

پچھلے پچیس تیس سال وطن عزیز کے کٹھن ترین ماہ و سال رہے. ہر زاویے سے مادر وطن کا استحصال کیا گیا. سوشلزم ، مذہب، روشن خیالی اور ان نعروں کے بیچ آتی جاتی جمہوریتیں اور ڈکٹیٹر. جو آیا قوم کو نیا سبق پڑھاتا رہا اور یہ بدنصیب پڑھتے رہے. میری نسل ضیاء کے ڈھلتے سورج یا اس کے کچھ بعد سے لے کر زرداری تک ان بدلتے رنگوں اور اس بیچ ہوتے تماشے کو دیکھتی رہی. بینظیر مرحومہ ہوں، نواز شریف یا مشرّف ہم نے سب کو پورا پورا موقع دیا اور پھر وہ وقت آیا کے ہم ناراض ہو گئے. ان سب سے لا تعلق ہو گئے اور حالات سے ایک طرح کا خاموش سمجھوتہ کر بیٹھے. کوئی اپنے ڈرائینگ روم میں بیٹھا اس نظام اور اس کے نمائندوں پر تبرا بھیج کر مطمعین رہا تو کوئی جلتا کڑھتا خاموش رہ کر اس نظام کا حصّہ بنا. قائد اعظم کا پاکستان کہیں کتابوں میں دھندلا گیا اور سیاست کوڑے دان سے زیادہ کچھ نہ رہی.

یہی وہ حالات تھے جس میں حقیقت کے نام پر مایوسی بیچتے اور اس مایوسی سے فائدہ اٹھاتے سیاست دانوں اور ان کی سیاسی جماعتوں کے بیچ کپتان نے تحریک انصاف کی بنیاد رکھی. اس جماعت کا سفر بھی خاصہ دلچسپ رہا. خان کے مداحوں کو اس کا کارکن بننے میں کوئی پندرہ سولہ سال کا عرصہ لگا. ابتدایی شکست کے بعد جب کپتان سے اس کے مستقبل کے بارے پوچھ گیا تو وہ مسکرا دیا، کہا میرا ووٹر ابھی ووٹ ڈالنے کی عمر کو نہیں پہنچا، اسے بڑا ہو لینے دو پھر دیکھنا یہاں تماشا کیا لگتا ہے. اور پھر میں اکیلا ہی چلا تھا جانب منزل مگر، لوگ آتے گئے کارواں بنتا گیا کے مصداق ، تحریک انصاف آگے بڑھدتی گی اور قوّت پکڑتی گی. ایک وہ وقت تھا جب کپتان کا مزاق اڑاتے لوگ اسے نیے زمانے کا اصغر خان ثابت کرنے میں لگے رہتے تھے. دو ہزار آٹھ کے انتخابات کا بائیکات تجزیہ نگاروں اور سیاسی پنڈتوں کے نزدیک اس کی سیاسی خودکشی تھی. مگر حقیقت یہی ہے کے جو کچھ خان دیکھ رہا تھا وہی اگر یہ تجزیہ نگار دیکھ رہے ہوتے تو آج خان کی جگہ یہ لیڈر نہ ہوتے؟ وقت نے ثابت کیا کے خان کی سیاسی زندگی کا سب سے بہترین فیصلہ دو ہزار آٹھ کے انتخابات میں حصّہ نہ لینا تھا.

آج تحریک انصاف بلا شبہ بغیر کسی عصبی، لسانی، مذہبی یا صوبائی لیبل کے بلا شرکت غیرے کراچی سے خیبر تک پاکستانیوں کی واحد جماعت ہے جو وفاق کی علامت ہے. پچھلے الیکشن کی تین بڑی جماعتیں، پہلے ہی صوبوں اور اپنے اپنے شہروں تک محدود تھیں،حالیہ الکشن نے رہی سہی کسر بھی پوری کر دی. انتہائی متنازع انتخابات کے باوجود تحریک انصاف ملک کی دوسری بڑی جماعت بن کے ابھری، اور ملک کے کونے کونے سے ووٹ حاصل کیا. وہ جماعت جسے کوئی ایک سیٹ کی پارٹی، کوئی ممی ڈیڈی پارٹی تو کوئی چند ہزار ووٹ کی پارٹی کہ کر خود کو دھوکہ دیا کرتا تھا ، آج چھیاسی لاکھ سے زاید ووٹ لے کر سٹیٹس کو کی نمائندہ تمام جماعتوں کو للکار رہی ہے.

تحریک انصاف نسبتاً ایک نیی جماعت ہے، گو سترہ سال کا عرصہ کم نہیں ہوتا مگر اگر اسے اپنے مد مقابل سٹیٹس کو کی نمائندہ تیس چالیس سال پرانی "گھاگ" جماعتوں کے تناظر میں دیکھیں تو یہ ایک نیی جماعت ہے. پھر اس کے کارکنان اور سپورٹر زیادہ تر معاشرے کے اس طبقے سے تعلق رکھتے ہیں جن کے لئے تو سیاست ہی نیی چیز ہے. اس لحاظ سے مسائل بھی ہیں جو وقتن فوقتن سامنے آتے رہتے ہیں جن سے بہتر انداز میں نمٹنے کی ضرورت ہے. یہ یاد رکھیے کے مفاد پرست ہر جگہ موجود ہوتے ہیں. ہماری صفوں میں بھی ہیں،  پیشہ ور سیاستداں بھی ہیں اور موقعہ پرست بھی. ممکن ہے ایسے لوگوں کا شخصی ایجنڈا کہیں کہیں کامیاب بھی ہو جائے مگر باحیثیت مجموعی یہ جماعت پر اس وقت تک قابض نہیں ہو سکتے(چاہے کسی عہدے پر بھی پہنچ جائیں) جب تک نظریاتی اور مخلص کارکن اور ہمدرد ہار نہیں ماں لیتا. اور ہار ماننا تحریک انصاف کے سچے کارکن نے سیکھا ہی نہیں. ایک اور اچھی بات کے شاید تحریک انصاف وہ واحد جماعت ہے جہاں شخصی اظہار خیال کی مکمل آزادی ہے اور اس کے کارکنان چیئرمین سے لے کر آخر تک سوال کرنا اور سوال اٹھانا جانتے ہیں اور انھیں اس کی آزادی بھی ہے.

 گزشتہ انتخابات میں تحریک انصاف مرکز میں حکومت نہ بنا سکی، اس کی تاریخی دھاندھلی سے لے کر اپنی کوتاہیوں تک کیی وجوہات ہیں جن میں ٹکٹ ایلوکشن اور تنظیمی معاملات شامل ہیں.اس پر سیر حاصل تبصرے بھی ہو چکے، ہو رہے ہیں اور ہوتے رہینگےاور یقیناً ہمارے لئے ان میں غلطیوں سے سیکھنے کے مواقع موجود ہیں. اس کے علاوہ اس الکشن میں جس طرح قوم کا منڈیٹ لوٹا گیا وہ بھی ہمارے سامنے ہے اور آ رہا ہے.  مگر آج ہمارا موضوع یہ نہیں.

پاکستان اور پاکستان سے باہر پوری دنیا میں تحریک انصاف کے کارکنان اور ہمدرد ایک بات یاد رکھیں کے آپ کا مقابلہ پینسٹھ سال سے اس ملک کی جڑوں میں بیٹھے سٹیٹس کو سے ہے جو آج اپنی بقا کی آخری جنگ لڑ رہا ہے. ناکامی کا آپشن ہمارے پاس ہے ہی نہیں. آپ ملک اور اس کا نظام بدلنے کا نعرہ لے کر نکلے ہیں، نیے پاکستان کا نعرہ، آپ کو کیا لگتا ہے کے یہ سب اتنا آسان ہے؟ ابھی تو ہم نے اس نظام کے مزے لوٹتے ڈکیتوں کی کمین گاہ میں پہلی ضرب لگایی ہے. اور وہ بھی ایسی کاری کے پاکستان کے طول و عرض میں جتنی روایتی سیاسی جماعتیں اور گروہ ہیں وہ آج ہمارے خلاف کھڑے ہیں. یہی ہماری صحیح سمت کی طرف اشارہ ہے. کیا کوئی سوچ سکتا تھا کہ کے پی کے میں دہایوں سے جاری مذہبی بہروپیوں اور قومیت کے سوداگروں میں جاری اقتدار کی بندر بانٹ ختم ہو گی؟ کس نی سوچا تھا کے تخت لاہور کو ان کے گھر میں للکارنے والی آواز اتنی طاقتور ہو جاےگی کے شریف برادران اور ان کے حواریوں کے حواسوں پر سوار ہو جاےگی؟ کبھی سوچا بھی نہ ہوگا کے کراچی میں خوف کی زنجیر توڑ کے ایک عام آدمی تیس سال میں پہلی بار لسانیت اور تشدد کے شیطانی چکّر سے آزاد ہو کر ظالم کے سامنے کھڑا ہوگا؟ بلوچستان کے پہاڑوں میں تبدیلی کا نعرہ گونجے گا؟ یہ تو شروعات ہیں دوستوں، تم نے اپنی آمد کا اعلان کر دیا ہے اور دیکھو کیا خوب کیا ہے کے ظالموں کے دل دہلتے ہیں اور ظلم کے در و دیوار ہلتے ہیں.

شریفوں، زرداریوں اور ان کے تمام حواریوں کو پیغام موصول ہو کہ کسی غلط فہمی میں نہ رہنا. یہ جوش، یہ جنون ایک رات میں نہیں پایا. پینسٹھ برس گزارے ہیں ظلم اور استحصال کی چکّی میں پس کر، برس ہا برس سے پامال ہوتی عزت نفس نے دوام بخشا ہے اسے، اپنے پیاروں کا لہو بے توقیر ہوتے دیکھا ہے، قائد کے پاکستان کو بے سہارا لٹتے اور کھوکھلا ہوتے دیکھا ہے. کبھی جمہوریت، کبھی لسان، کبھی مذھب، کبھی روشن خیالی تو کبھی مفاہمت کے نام پر دھوکہ کھایا ہے. نتائج اور مد مقابل سٹیٹس کو کی بے انتہا طاقت سے بے نیاز ان جوانو کا عزم  مضبوط اور یقین غیر متزلزل ہے. یہ اپنے خوف کو شکست دے بیٹھے ہیں. ان کے جوش اور جنون کا اندازہ لگانا سٹیٹس کو کی نمائندہ جماعتوں اور ان کے حواریوں کے لئے شاید ممکن نہیں . کوئی ہتھکنڈا یا چال اب ان کے راستے کی دیوار بنے، یہ ممکن نہیں. یہ جیت ہار سے بے نیاز بس تبدیلی کی دھن ان پر سوار.

 انہیں جتنی بار دبانے کی کوشش کی جاےگی، یہ اتنی بار مزید قوّت سے پلٹینگے ، جتنی بار ان کے حوصلے پست کرنے کی کوشش کرو گے ان کے دلوں میں خود کو منوانے کا جذبہ اتنا ہی شدید ہوتا جائے گا. اور اس جذبے کی طاقت تو یقین کامل والے ہی جانیں جن پر اپنے سے کیی گنا بڑے اور طاقتور حریف کو شکست فاش دینے کی دھن سوار ہے.  راستہ بہت کٹھن مگر منزل قریب، بس ثابت قدمی اور یقین کامل شرط.

پچیس سے زیادہ لاشیں گر گیئں ، سو سے زیادہ دکانیں جلا دی گی، مسجد کو آگ لگا دی گیی ، بچوں کو بھی نہیں بخشا گیا اور خوب فائرنگ اور مار کٹایی کی گیی. فوج بلا لی گی کرفیو لگ گیا. مگر میڈیا میں کیونکہ اس کی "اکسکلسِو کوریج " نہیں کی گی لہذہ کروڑوں لوگوں کے نزدیک کچھ ہوا ہی نہیں. ملک میں امن ہے اور لوگوں کو "سینس آف سیکورٹی" ہے. 

دہشت پھیلانے کے لئے ہی دہشت گردی کی جاتی ہے. تو کیوں نہ لوگوں کے دلوں سے دہشت کو ختم کرنے کے لئے "ٹی ٹی پی" اور اس جیسی دوسری تنظیموں کی ہر "کھانسی" اور "چھینک " کی "بریکنگ نیوز" چلانے کی دوڑ کو بھی ختم کر دیا جائے؟ ہر شرلی پٹاخے کی "بریکنگ نیوز" چلانے کو بھی ختم کر دیا جائے؟ ایسے لوگوں میں جو احساس عدم تحفظ ہے وہ کم ہوگا اور میڈیا اٹینشن کے بھوکے ٹی ٹی پی اور دیگر کو میڈیا آکسجن بھی میسر نہ آئیگی. 

مگر ایسا ہوگا نہیں!!! کیونکہ دہشت گردی بہت سوں کے نزدیک ایک خاص طبقے اور شکل والے لوگوں کی کارروایاں ہی ہیں. آج پاکستان میں کون سا طبقہ محفوظ ہے؟تو پھر ہماری لاشوں کی یہ شرمناک تقسیم کیوں؟ کیوں ان لاشوں کو شیعہ سنی ، بریلوی، کرسچن اور دیگر اقلیتوں میں تقسیم کیا جاتا ہے؟کیوں ہماری املاک پر حملوں کو چرچ، امام بارگاہ اور مسجدوں میں تقسیم کیا جاتا ہے ؟ اور سب سے شرمناک ان کی میڈیا کوریج کے الگ الگ انداز اور اصول ہیں؟ 

یقینن یہ جان بوجھ کر کیا جاتا ہے، ایک خاص قسم کی سوچ کو جلا دینے کے لئے، ایک خاص قسم کا خوف لوگوں میں پھیلانے کے لئے ، ایک خاص قسم کے بکاؤ طبقے کی تسکین کے لئے، ایک خاص ایجنڈے کو آگے بڑھانے کے لئے.

کاش !! اے کاش !!! مرے وطن میں لوگ ان باتوں کو سمجھ سکیں، کاش وہ اس تقسیم کی مذموم کوشش کو ناکام بنا سکیں !! تاکہ دہشت اور دہشت گردی کا بہتر انداز میں مقابلہ کیا جا سکے. سوچیے اور خدارا اس بات کو سمجھیے کے جب تک ہم خود نہ چاہیں دشمن اپنے ارادوں میں کبھی کامیاب نہیں ہو سکتا.... الله پاکستان اور پاکستانیوں کی حفاظت فرمایے!!!
